Dr. Jeffrey H. Stern is a native New Yorker who has resided in the capital district since 1989. He received his B.A. in Biology and Ph.D. in Biophysics from Brandeis University in Massachusetts. He then carried out Retina Research at Rockefeller University in New York City, the University College London, England and the MBL in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
After completing his research fellowships Dr. Stern obtained an MD degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine in Florida. His internship and Ophthalmology residency was completed at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY. His Retina and Vitreous fellowship was at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology.
Research is an important part of Dr. Stern’s life. He works closely with Sally Temple, Ph.D. on pivotal retinal and brain stem cell research through the non-profit Regenerative Research Foundation and the Neural Stem Cell Research Institute in Rensselaer, N.Y. focusing on understanding the mechanisms of, and developing drug therapy for, age-related macular degeneration.
His love for the Capital District area brought him back from New York City to Slingerlands where he lives with his wife, Dr. Temple, and three children. He established his practice in Albany and Saratoga in 1994. Dr. Stern cares for patients with all types of retinal conditions.
His strongest interest is in caring for those with diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, macular puckers and holes, retinal detachments and complications of cataract surgery.
